1. Accelerate Gently: The harder you press the accelerator, the more fuel you use. Accelerate gently and try to take about five seconds to increase your car’s speed by 10 mph. 
2. Avoid Traffic: Sitting in stop-and-go traffic wastes fuel, and can put mechanical stress on your car’s drivetrain. Leave about 15 minutes early to avoid rush hour, or plan a shortcut to get to your destination without having to sit in traffic. 
3. Avoid High Speeds: At higher speeds, cars use more fuel. Try to keep your speed at around 55-65 mph (always follow the speed limit) on the highway to use less fuel. 
4. Gradually Come to a Stop: Instead of applying the brakes constantly, try to coast to a stop when it’s safe and appropriate to do so. You can use this method to reduce fuel usage on hills as well. Take your foot off the gas pedal and let your car roll to a stop. If you’re traveling up a hill, reduce your speed and use your car’s forward momentum to coast downhill. 
5. Use Air Conditioning on the Highway: Your car’s air conditioning system requires gas to operate. Nevertheless, using your car’s AC on the highways is more efficient than rolling down the windows. This is because rolling the windows down causes more drag coefficient, which reduces your car’s fuel economy.
